Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives: In remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Father of Royal Rainmaking
Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives by the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (DRRAA) organizes the “Father of Royal Rainmaking Day” during 12-16 November, 2018 at Ratthaprasasanabhakti Building, the Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary, 5 December, B.E 2550; Chaengwattana Road, Laksi, Bangkok.
On 14 November 2018, Mr. Grisada Boonrach, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand presided over the opening ceremony of Father of Royal Rainmaking Day 2018. The event marks the 63rd anniversary of the Royal Rainmaking Project, and annually takes place on 14 November since 1955; the day that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej initiated to research rainmaking technology to help people suffering from drought after travelling to the rural areas of the northeast of Thailand. The initiative project “Royal Rainmaking” has been developing until now.
The Cabinet, during its meeting on 20 August 2002, endorsed the proposal by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives for the title of “Father of Royal Rainmaking” to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and 14 November each year is designated as “Father of Royal Rainmaking Day” for Thai citizens to show their royalty and admiration of King Rama IX, and to commemorate His Majesty's graciousness.
Over the past 60 years of His Majesty’s Royal Rainmaking initiative project, the project does not only benefit to social and economics of Thailand but the Royal Rainmaking technology have also transferred to the other countries. With his ingenuity, excellence and his great effort to apply his knowledge and expertise in the subject of meteorology to reduce natural disaster to the Thai people, “The Royal Rainmaking Technology” has been publicized and accepted at the international level. The Royal Rainmaking Project was granted a patent by the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce, and other organizations in other countries such as the European Patent Office and the Patent from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej also granted permission to foreign countries to use Royal rainmaking technology to combat with drought condition. His Majesty’s Royal Rainmaking initiative project is the great innovation which is beneficial to both Thais and mankind.
The inauguration ceremony of the exhibition called “Royal Rainmaking in Foreign Countries” chaired by Mr. Wiwat Salyakamthorn, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, held on 12 November 2018.There are the presentation of award to the Excellent Royal Rainmaking Volunteers in regional and national levels, and the prize for the photographing and drawing competition titled “Royal Rainmaking : the King’s Wisdom” which the awarded pieces are exhibited.
The event also includes exhibitions on History of Royal Rainmaking Project, Mission on Royal Rainmaking Operation, Royal Rainmaking Service Access, Royal Rainmaking Volunteers, and Royal Rainmaking in Foreign Countries presenting the progress on cooperation on weather modification technology initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej with 8 countries, namely Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Oman, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Moreover, there are exhibitions on other Royal projects initiated by H.M. King Bhumibol exhibited by other agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and DRRAA’s MOU counterparts, such as Royal Air Force, Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute presenting the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for precision weather modification planning and operation, Defense Technology Institute displaying the model of silver iodide flare ejector for cold cloud seeding operation, etc. The highlight of the event is the landmark showing oil painting pictures of H.M. King Bhumibol performing his royal duties.
Apart from providing the public with knowledge and information about His Majesty’s initiatives in rainmaking technology, the exhibition also features knowledge sharing in agriculture and a bazaar of community products; including vegetables, fruits, processed foods, and non-processed foods with the affordable price.
