“Royal Rain” poured to mitigate air pollution in Bangkok and its vicinity where the PM2.5 particles in air exceeds
the Thai safety limit.
On 15 January 2018, Dr. Surasri Kidtimonton, Director-General of Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (DRRAA) stated that at 10.30 a.m. a rapid-deploy Royal Rainmaking Operation Unit sent 2 aircrafts to take off from U-tapao airport, Rayong province, to seed clouds with triggering step and later on with fattening step, in accordance with the Royal Rainmaking Technology created by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, at Chachoengsao and Nakhon Nayok provinces.The seeded clouds moved along the Eastery wind towards Bangkok and its vicinity, and finally in the afternoon, the clouds fell as rain as expected.
Dr. Surasri Kidtimonton said that the aforesaid mission brought rain to the eastern Bangkok and its vicinity to mitigate the air pollution caused by the PM2.5 fine dust. DRRAA in collaboration with the Pollution Control Department will evaluate the air quality
in order to periodically plan for the Royal Rainmaking to clear the air continuously.
